a gesture

I've been thinking that it would be quite nice
Even just a card would be alright
One 'Happy Birthday' before the end of July
Then you go to bed and you turn out the lights
Turn out the lights
Its just a gesture,
not much else.
The way you move through the room
You tell me its not my vibe
You always try to choose for me
Before I get to decide
I know it might feel like a total defeat
Sometimes its ok to retreat
This might reveal a deeper insecurity
Help to prevent another deceit
Its just a gesture,
not much else.
You've got a swing in the jaw
and its gaping wide.
Once you open the door
you can't put it back inside.

cry
04:34
|
|||
you used to take me by the hand, I'd follow, follow
the thought of it now is hard to swallow
we don't do that shit no more - those days are long gone
cry? What you gonna do?
But just cry father, cry
Said you've been thinking over the bite
Said you want to take the very next flight
What if I want to have kids? The kind of father you've been
cry? What you gonna do?
But just cry daddy, cry
What can you do?
What can you do?
But cry
And now you've moved for good
what's the use in tears?
There's enough salt water between us
to while away the years
but still you cry
Cry, daddy cry
What are you going to do but just cry father, cry
The thought, the thought, the thought might remain
but the gesture feels in vain

this is no occasion to be sorry
this is a reassortment event
put down your idle diversion
this is a reassortment event
this is no occasion to be sorry
I rode a bright polka dot
your instinctive moral judgement
was dislodged by the hazards
another result of the panic
this pain could be useful too
our firmest of convictions
'seek not supremacy from the start'
what a consensual hallucination
arrest my chest and my heart
through this struggle of conviction
may you discover what you truly believe
erase those violent horizons
this is a quiet revolution

greenway
04:56
|
|||
today, the 6 week old greenway recycling plant went up in flames.
We joked that the thick, black plumes of smoke were the by-product of a colleague’s birthday cake. And as I drove beneath the burning mass of trash and the flocking journos, I thought to myself.
What terrible optics.
Do you want to fade into obscurity? It is such a pleasant fall.
Through the grey, I find that every day blurs at the edges
but the colour is bursting through
the bones of my very soul are so old
but my blood has got vigour
it is a small comfort
I cannot seem to find a definition that doesn't leave vinegar on my tongue
something, that I cannot name - neither time nor space -
just a different texture
Give me comfort
give me grace
and the love
to fill this place

twisted

I remember when you didn't want me to be owned
I remember when I was but a small microbe
then I needed some time
out of the action
been doing the same thing twice
hoping to get some traction
but it goes on again
you feel you can't escape
bemoan your existence
in this rat race
the sky lightens under the leaves
the sky lightens under the leaves
the sky lightens under the leaves
thats' the way its always going to be

song for M
04:23
|
|||
I can conjure you
close my eyes
and set my mouth
you're ashing on the sofa
grip my hand but still look proud
an armful of metal
sea of troubles at the boil
float on sweet one
well you shook the mortal coil
if you're not coming out then i'm kicking down the door
because I've got much more love than I ever had before
you had so much to teach
I didn't mind listening
the scars you wore so well
I remember how you used to tell
"You can't take it with you not the treasure not the toil"
float on sweet one well you shook the mortal coil
do you ever ask yourself what you even come here for?
I'm wailing at the corners
I'm beating at the walls
if you're not coming out then I'm kicking down that door
I'm railing at the corners, you're free forever more
you shook the mortal coil
and you're free forever more
An armful of metal sea of troubles at the boil
float on sweet one, you shook the mortal coil
